THE CONCEPT
OF WABISABI
Wabisabi is an ancient aesthetic philosophy rooted in Zen Buddhism, particularly the tea ceremony, a ritual of purity and simplicity in which masters prized bowls that were handmade and irregularly shaped, with uneven glaze, cracks, and a perverse beauty in their deliberate imperfection.
In traditional Japanese aesthetics, Wabisabi (侘寂) is a world view centered on the acceptance of transience and imperfection. The aesthetic is sometimes described as one of beauty that is "imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete". It is a concept derived from the Buddhist teaching of the three marks of existence (三法 sanbōin), namely im-permanence (常 mujō), suffering (苦 ku) and absence of self-nature (空 kū).
WHAT OUR NAME
REPRESENTS TO US
Wabisabi is about finding beauty in imperfection: and imperfection is reality! We exist and were created out of imperfections; the imperfection is the genesis of beauty, of everything we call "wonderful" through our senses. The universe is imperfect in its essence, a slight deviation from the particle-antiparticle balance has created everything. We chose this name to tell you that we humans aren't perfect, but we exist, we are real and beautiful.
